We make tools for thinkers*

NEW YORK CITY — EST. 2013

*If you have a brain, you're a thinker.

ABOUT

Baronfig was founded in New York City in 2013 by designer Joey Cofone.

We create tools, editions, and original projects for people who think, make, and bring ideas into the world.

Our permanent tools are designed to be useful and built to last. Our editions give us room to experiment with materials, collaborators, and unexpected ideas. Our projects explore all types of ideas about thinking, living, being human, and whatever else gets us excited.

We hope you enjoy what we've made.

Five things you should know about Baronfig.

Hey, who doesn’t love a list?

↓

01

Our products are designed with the community.

Baronfig started as a Kickstarter project based on feedback from hundreds of thinkers around the world.

Today we continue this tradition by keeping an open dialog with our customers as we constantly evolve.

Each new product is based on conversations via video chat, email, social media—and even (*gasp*) phone. We’re in this together.

02

We have a mission.

To champion thinkers around the world through inspiration and imagination.

Throughout our journey in designing products and coming up with creative projects, our mission continues to drive us. It’s the singular rule by which every move we make is measured against.

03

We plant a tree for every notebook sold.

Together, we’re giving back. One Confidant at a time.

We’re dedicated to empowering and inspiring thinkers. This includes a responsibility to leave the earth better than we found it—one tree at a time. A million trees planted and counting.

04

Nobody owns us.

We're independent. There's no one breathing down our necks telling us that we have to remove that one really cool printing effect because it'll save us one-tenth of a percent on production costs.

05

We follow three principles.

SIMPLICITY — Simple design is direct, more intuitive, and easy on the eyes. It should just work, every single time.

USEFULNESS — Your tools need to be functional. We work to make sure you have the best tools for the job at all times.

COMMUNITY — All of our designs are a product of community feedback. We keep improving based on your needs.

BONUS!

Baronfig is a family business.

Our studio is owned and operated by Ariana and Joey Cofone. Partners in life — and business. (Yes, it's as hard as it sounds! But it's so rewarding, too.)

We didn't plan on working together.

Joey originally started the studio in 2013 — before we even knew each other. But we met right after, and then for the next ten years Ariana watched from the sidelines.

Then one day it just made sense. Ariana's operational skills combined with Joey's design abilities made for an irresistible combo.

And here we are today.

ANOTHER BONUS!

We created a name with meaning.

Everyone always asks, “What does Baronfig mean?"

Apollo

DISCIPLINE

+

Dionysus

IMPULSE

The creative journey revolves around the dichotomy of Discipline and Impulse: having the discipline to work hard and the impulse to play like a child.

The Greek gods and brothers Apollo (discipline) and Dionysus (impulse) represent this dichotomy perfectly. Baron is derived from the Apollonian symbol of soldier, and Fig is a symbol of Dionysus.

Thus Baronfig — Discipline & Impulse.

BONUS BONUS!

We have a common philosophy.

If our Mission is the destination, our Philosophies are the fuel that get us there.

WE BELIEVE...

...that we are here to inspire the world. ...that a well designed product improves lives. ...that play and the unknown is as important as discipline and planning. ...in collaboration as the pinnacle of creating. ...clarity is achieved by finding the truth. ...in the magic of being present and enjoying the process. ...in ownership and responsibility for our decisions. ...that action is the loudest voice.

Baronfig’s forward and upward strategy is modeled after the artistic process.

It isn’t discussed often, but business is an art as much as painting or making music. Part of the journey requires that we choose a destination, but it also requires that we be open to uncertainty, small detours, and even large changes in direction.

We’re always looking for feedback.

We hope that you enjoy what we’ve made. Once you’ve spent time with our products, please check our dedicated footer link to submit feedback.
